How memory chunking works with our STM.

Hey class,

As we study the human STM, we’ve come to understand that STM can reach a certain capacity of 7+ to -2. Chunking is a technique that helps us store more information in our STM. While researching I’ve come across a interesting video that explains how chunking works and how in the 1940’s, they used the game chess, as an experimental tool to gather information on how peoples memory works, and how chunking helped them remember more.

Enjoy!

  1. Chunking kind of reminds me of us, college students. We often rely on chunking information when it comes to exams in, and we usually forget what we’ve learned a while after the exam because it only stores information in our short term memory. This video is short, but straight to point. I liked it, thank you!
